Brands You Should Know: Denim Edition
Brands You Should Know: Denim
Denim jeans are a staple everyone needs in their wardrobe, but finding good jeans that fit well at a reasonable price can be frustrating. Below are a few brands that make quality denim with a variety of fits and styles, at a few different price points. This is by no means an exhaustive list, but a few that have recently made some excellent products worth sharing.
Abercrombie & Fitch Denim
The Abercrombie re-boot in the last few years has been amazing. While I need to order more full-length denim from here, I have a pair of their Curve Love Ultra High Rise Ankle Straight Jeans (part of their A&F All Day Comfort Stretch Denim line) and they were an instant favorite. Two other best sellers from their Curve Line A&F Vintage Stretch Denim collection are the Curve Love High Rise 90s Relaxed Jean and the Curve Love Ultra High Rise 90s Straight Jean, which both come in over 20 varieties of washes and colors. You can’t go wrong with Abercrombie's High Rise Dad Shorts or the Curve Love High Rise Mom Shorts for the summer months.
One feature I love from the website is the ability to also order various lengths of their denim, which allows for even better fit options, especially if the length is a regular problem when shopping for jeans. At price points under $100, it’s hard not to find a pair that will be a fabulous addition to your wardrobe.
Agolde Denim
Owned by Citizens of Humanity, Agolde Denim is a more premium denim brand, but its products are worth the price point (you can use “girl math” and think cost-per-wear if you need to justify them). The Parker denim shorts are an absolute must have, but other best sellers include their Lana Straight leg, the 90’s Pinch Waist High-Rise Straight, and the Riley High Rise Straight Crop.
Citizens of Humanity
Citizens of Humanity is a Los Angeles-based, premium denim company, which values creating high-quality products that elevate your style while reducing their carbon footprint.
Like Agolde, the products are sold at a premium price point but made to last. While they have new products seasonally, a few best sellers include the Emerson Mid Rise Relaxed 27”, Annina High Rise Wide Leg 33", and Lilah High Rise Bootcut 32”.
I used to own multiple pairs of jeans from Citizens, but only recently added the Lilah high-rise bootcut (in their dark wash) back into my closet. While I could have left them longer, I typically wear them with flats or sneakers, so I had them taken up to suit that, but you can leave them as they are. I love the fabric of the jeans and how well they fit. Any of their products make a great addition to the denim staples in your wardrobe.
Pistola Denim
One of my favorite brands at the moment, Pistola makes quality denim in a variety of washes, cuts and styles. I love my pair of their Alexa High Rise Flare jeans with the split hem. I have to size down in their products, so be sure to try them on, but I love the materials, and the fit is one of the best I have found. A few other best selling options from them include the
They also have a variety of skirts, shorts, jackets and more on their website so be sure to check those out as well.
Mavi
Mavi Jeans is a sustainable denim company, established in Istanbul in 1991. I have one pair of their Heidi denim shorts I purchased this summer, and with fall around the corner (at least down in Florida) have been browsing their many other styles. They focus on creating eco-friendly denim, at an affordable cost, but still on high-quality.
A few of their best selling items are the Adriana Skinny Ankle Jean (Mid-Rise) and the Molly Bootcut Jean.
Madewell
The classic styles and cuts from Madewell are a staple in my closet and have been for years. The jeans are well made, and last. I have found some styles fit certain body types better (as is the case with all brands), but their straight-leg cuts and skinny jeans always hit just right.
DL1961
While DL1961 is not a new brand, I can’t remember the last time I tried on their jeans until this week. I may have a new favorite brand. I could tell simply from the fabric of multiple washes that they are well made and fit like a glove.
